Frederick Antwon Taylor came to Gainesville from Belle Glade as a former high school linebacker, Florida "Mister Football" and "Super Senior" honors, and eventually, one of the Florida High School Athletic Association's "Greatest 100 Players". Fred played running back in the same backfield with Elijah Williams (my #98 Greatest Gator) for Steve Spurrier's Florida Gators from 1994 to 1997, where he was a key member of the Bowl Alliance National Championship team in 1996. In 1994, he started two games as a true freshman and racked up 873 yards and 8 TDs. As a sophomore in 1995, he played in six games and gained 281 yards with 5 TDs. In 1996, Fred ran for 629 yards and 5 TDs, with 60 yards in 18 attempts and a touchdown in the 1997 52-20 Sugar Bowl victory. In his senior season of 1997, Fred was the leading rusher with 1292 yards and 13 TDs. He earned first-team All American and All-SEC honors, and was selected by his teammates as the team MVP. Fred finished his career with 3075 rushing yards (4th in team history) and 31 rushing TDs (also 4th in team history). His 5.7 yards per carry are third in Gator history, right behind his backfield mate, Elijah Williams, and the hybrid RB/WR, Percy Harvin. Fred was the 4th overall pick of the 1998 NFL Draft by the Jacksonville Jaguars. Fred was inducted into the Florida-Georgia Hall of Fame in 2008, the University of Florida Athletic Hall of Fame as a Gator Great in 2010, and the Pride of the (Jacksonville) Jaguars in 2012.
Bonus: Fred's son Kelvin broke Emmitt Smith's 1986 high school rushing record, and Kelvin still has another year of high school football to play! He is a 2013 Florida football commit.
