2010 Senior Bowl uneventful for Tebow, Cooper

It seemed to me that they never really gave Tebow the chance to throw down field, it was always out routes and WR screens. They gave Zac Robinson the down field plays.. and it looked like he was the best QB out there. I really don't like these type of games because the QB can never really get in a rhythm either.

Based on what I was reading on Twitter during the game, the O-line really didn't help Tebow out very much.

Interesting tweet from Ben Volin:

" Tebow has a virus in his esophagus this week, which was 'much worse' than strep throat, his mother said. IV bags, couldn't eat all week"

Yeah, thats what I saw too. But I don't think Tebow hurt his draft stock. If anything, the scouts saw that he is VERY coachable and he can make improvements(if you want to call them that) very quickly.

There is a reason the Senior Bowl rarely draws a full crowd and rarely generates TV ratings. It really was the Tebow bowl. Like it or not, good or bad, this Senior Bowl had more buzz about it due to one person. That's changing the world. Wait until the Super Bowl. How many graduated college athletes get to do commercials during a Super Bowl? I have even enjoyed watching people go crazy finding ways to nitpick the Tim Tebow persona. Once I realized most of these guys had unfounded arguments, I started to laugh off their comments. (Think canesrule21 on Ben Volin's blog comments. Once you realize he is a loser with misplaced loyalty, you are annoyed by his constant lamenting but you can learn to laugh at his stupidity. I have only recently learned to do this with many of these clowns.)

I'm with you on that...and it was definitely the Tebow bowl. Even the Bama fans cheer for Tebow. Honest football fans KNOW that he is one of the greatest college football players there ever will be.

It was not about whether or not Tebow should have played. It was about the fact that he DID play, and he DID affect Senior Bowl ticket revenues, and he DID generate headlines. In addition to being athletes, NFL players are celebrities. Tebow has that down. The NFL will take notice that he is single-handedly drawing attention and money, and a smart NFL coach will use that to his advantage. Does the NFL really care if Tebow is pro-life? That he has "intangibles"? That he has a long delivery? No. They will note that he has enough skill to succeed in the NFL and generate revenue. It was BRILLIANT for him to play in the Senior Bowl, because he did what he does best--learn and improve just by being himself.

I couldn't have said that any better.

You know, I have to laugh at those wannabe "writers" at Bleacher Report ripping Tim to shreds. It's easy for them and others to lambaste him over a blase performance at the Senior Bowl, but he deserves a high-five for making an effort out there in spite of his being ill.

So many are putting the cart before the horse on Tebow based on yesterday's game, but one performance doesn't make or break one's career. He still has room to improve from now until the Combine in March, his ProDay workout in The Swamp and other individual workouts for teams showing an interest in drafting him.

Also, he can't be judged by the lack of success of his predecessors. Danny Wuerffel didn't last long in the NFL, and even though Rex Grossman is still active he's now a backup; he has the skills but needs to prove that he can perform consistently without the "Good Rex - Bad Rex" peaks and valleys if he wants to continue. Shane Matthews was pretty much a journeyman for lack of a better word, but he held his own in the league. Tim has his own style, and he'll find a way to make it work. I'd be preaching to the choir to talk about what he's done at the college level again, but as far as the NFL goes the jury's out on him - and it's time the sportswriters cut him a little slack.

I didn't watch the Senior Bowl (I don't get NFL Network) but I have a few thoughts. Based on the stat line and videos of practice I saw during the week, I don't think he played well and might have hurt his draft stock. That can all change though at the Pro Day and Combine. Another thing, and I think Escambia hit the nail on the head - Tebow made the Senior Bowl relevant. He created headlines, he sold tickets, he made people tune in.

I have mixed feelings on the NFL Combine. The scouts say he is strong enough to be a fullback, but too slow to be a running QB. The Combine will show the same thing--he will bench press a schoolbus, and run a 4.6+. What does that do for his draft stock as a QB? He will throw to receivers and may look like the #3 or #4 QB, thus putting him in early round 2. I'm okay with that, but is Timmy okay with that? Is there something other than the Wonderlic that may sway opinions towards Timmy? Having just gone through that thought exercise, I am more convinced the Senior Bowl was a wise choice, but I think it may illustrate that January is too late to convince scouts. The Senior Bowl was necessary for Timmy, but it may not have answered enough questions. For him, it was worth the try.

The south line did an awful job of protection. The tackle from LSU embarrased himself and brandon graham just made him look silly. Tebow has been unfairly been getting criticized. At least Mike Mayock seems to be keeping an open mind and gave him props for some 'NFL caliber' throws.

What's really making me laugh is reading all the comments (especially from those amateurs at Bleacher Report) knocking Urban Meyer for not having prepared Tebow for the next level, and recently Joe Theismann jumping on that same bandwagon with the bitter comments he made.

Coach Meyer's primary job at UF is to prepare his team for gameday and win championships at the college level - NOT run a factory for pumping out future NFL players.

I agree with what you've said though; I suspect either a sense of jealousy or anti-Gator bias from those who are loudly assailing Tebow and his abilities.

ABSOLUTELY!!!! Never discount politics either. He will rub a lot of the liberal sports writers the wrong way if he continues to use his platform to push what he believes in (which I hope he does). I will be rooting for him harder than any Buckeye going pro this year (no matter what team he plays for). Tebow is the man, and I hope he kicks some butt. If there is one guy where you don't want to put a chip on his shoulder, this would be the one hahaha. This is kind of off topic here but where do you guys see Brandon Spikes going in the draft? Mid 1st?
