Andre Jerome “Bubba” Caldwell was born in Tampa, Florida, where he was a standout wide receiver and quarterback of his Florida Class 4A football team. When he chose to play for Ron Zook, he elected to move back to receiver out of his friendship with Chris Leak and his older brother Reche’s (’98-’01) legacy at receiver. He saw limited action his freshman year in 2003, but saw increased action his sophomore year in 2004. He had a medical redshirt in Urban Meyer‘s first year as head coach due to a leg fracture, but he exploded onto the scene his senior year with 57 catches, 577 yards, 6 touchdowns, and a passing touchdown in the victory over Arkansas in the 2006 SEC Championship Game. As a senior, he had a career high 761 receiving yards, 7 touchdowns, 56 receptions while adding 12 rushes for 58 yards and a touchdown while earning the Fergie Ferguson Award for “displaying leadership, character, and courage”. Bubba owns the Gator record for career receptions with 185 receptions.
