Nine football players from the University of Florida were drafted by NFL teams during the 2010 NFL Draft - none lower than the 5th round. The Gators had three first round picks - Joe Haden, Maurkice Pouncey and Tim Tebow. Bill Belichick and the New England Patriots drafted the most Gators of any team with 3. It was no doubt a star year for the Florida Gators and Urban Meyers first full recruiting class.
We already talked about the first round selections on Friday last week, so let's take a minute to look at the remaining Gator players, where they were picked and by which team.
<strong>Round 2</strong>
Jermaine Cunningham - Patriots
Carlos Dunlap - Bengals
Brandon Spikes - Patriots
<strong>Round 3</strong>
Major Wright - Bears
<strong>Round 4</strong>
Aaron Hernandez - Patriots
<strong>Round 5</strong>
Riley Cooper - Eagles
It's amazing how fast players can fall in the Draft. It wasn't but just a few months ago when many experts had Carlos Dunlap pegged as a Top 10 pick... now we saw him go in the 2nd round as the fifth Gator taken. Dunlap was (not surprisingly) selected by the Cincinnati Bengals one pick after Cunningham.
Jermaine Cunningham, Brandon Spikes and Aaron Hernandez will all be reunited in New England on a championship caliber team. I never thought Hernandez would fall to the fourth round, but I bet he doesn't mind too much considering the team that picked him.
Riley Cooper could be one of the steals of this draft. I love the way Cooper plays. He has great speed, runs good routes and has great hands. The Eagles have a new QB and Riley will get to build chemistry with him. It will be tough for Cooper to get on the field with Desean Jackson and Jeremy Maclin as the #1 and #2 WRs, but I think he'll still get a chance to catch 20 balls his rookie year.
Brandon James was not drafted, but he was just signed as a rookie free agent by the Indianapolis Colts.
