HOOVER, Ala. — "The first buzz at SEC Media Days on Wednesday originated from Gainesville, of all places.
It started with a phone call to The Gainesville Sun from the attorney of former Florida center Maurkice Pouncey, giving the newspaper a statement from Pouncey denying he took money from a sports agent's representative while he was still at UF between the SEC title game and the Jan. 1 Sugar Bowl.
"I did not accept $100,000, it is an absolutely ridiculous claim," Pouncey said in a statement sent first to The Sun from Gainesville attorney M. Stephen Stanfield. "I have completely cooperated with the investigation and answered any and all questions put to me."
