Spring practice is closed to the media and fans so we just have to take Will Muschamp at his word.
This week he fired off a list of names of guys (including Jordan Reed, Quinton Dunbar, Sharrif Floyd, Dominique Easley, Jon Bostic, Jelani Jenkins, Lerentee McCray, Matt Elam and Jeremy Brown) who have been impressive or at the very least were guys who stood out to him.
He didn't get that detailed with his evaluation of practice other than to say everyone is learning the system and reiterated several times this was "practice eight".
He did shed light on the QB situation.
If it wasn't obvious already, the coaching staff doesn't appear to be ready to head into its first season with a true freshman quarterback.
Sophomore Tyler Murphy doesn't appear to even be in the conversation.
-Jeff Driskel, Muschamp says, "should be at his prom", which is a nice way to indicate he needs some time on the practice field before anyone even considers putting him under center for a real football game this September.
Muschamp said John Brantley is the guy at this point, but added the media that it wasn't about experience it was about who the best player on the field is.
Brantley himself says he is excited about working in Charlie Weis' offensive system and it sounds like the plan is to attack more down the field in the "vertical passing game".
Brantley told ESPN this week, "We’re going to do everything we can to get this offense back to where we all know it should be.”
Running Back
Sophomore Running back Mack Brown broke his fibula in practice last Friday and will be out at least 3 months. Muschamp didn't seem to think this was a serious injury, or at least as bad as it sounds. But it does leave the Gators with only one healthy running back in practice Chris Rainey.
Muschamp says they have been runnin' some guys in there.
Jeff Demps will be back when he completes the outdoor track season and will see time at running back and as a receiver.
Junior Mike Gillislee has an injured foot and true freshman Mike Blakley has a shoulder injury.
8th Commitment
UF picked up its eighth commitment for the Class of 2012.
On Wednesday Quinteze Williams, a 6-foot-4 295-lb defensive tackle from Tyrone, Ga gave his verbal to the Gators.
Gator Nation looks forward to many sacks to come from Williams.

Sturgis is healthy
Senior placekicker Caleb Sturgis said he is “getting close (to 100 percent),” after struggling with a back injury last season.
“I haven't done kickoffs or anything like that yet. But I'm feeling real good. Field goals. … I'm 100 percent on those.”
Beal does well in McD's game
Incoming freshman forward Brad Beal scored 17 points, and had five rebounds with four assists in the McDonald's All-American game Wednesday night. In fact, Beal had the first 5 points in the game for the East squad.
Look for Beal to get a chance to have a major impact on the Gators in 2011-2012.
Even his hometown paper has labeled him as one of the all-time greats to come out of St. Louis, MO.

-Chandler Parsons was named an Associated Press All-American honorable mention this week.
-Multiple outlets are reporting that hoops assistant coach Larry Shyatt will be the next head coach at the University of Wyorming.
