Anyway, here's an excerpt from his latest blog entry:
"Last week, Finebaum himself threw napalm on the fire when he wrote an embarrassing column pretending to have news about Meyer leaving for Notre Dame (which, of course, he didn’t).
And that brings us to Saturday.
Meyer was the life of the party at the 15th annual Bob Dooley Invitational, a fantastic charity event at Haile Plantation Golf and Country Club organized by Gainesville Sun columnist Pat Dooley and benefitting Stop! Children’s Cancer.
Meyer didn’t play golf yesterday (I did, and won dinner for two at Texas Roadhouse for nailing the longest putt of the day, an uphill, right-to-left 25-footer on 15. Not that I’m bragging…), but he spent a couple hours milling with the guests and showed a lighter side that we rarely see. He shook dozens of hands, flashed a big smile and even bid on a baseball bat autographed by Tampa Bay Rays manager Joe Maddon in the silent auction, though he ultimately didn’t win.
Finally, before the golf tournament began, Meyer took the podium and gave a little speech about the event, the importance of family and his football team.
He ended his speech with a funny anecdote about coming back from vacation this week and reading “a bunch of nonsense” in the newspaper. He didn’t mention Finebaum by name, but he didn’t have to.
“Let me say this one more time,” Meyer said. “I am not leaving the University of Florida. I’m going to be here until they drag me away kicking and screaming.”
Then he looked at me and two other reporters in my playing group.
“Put THAT in the newspaper,” Meyer said."
