Some observations following Florida’s 67-50 loss to Kentucky:
– While sophomore point guard Kasey Hill had his best scoring game in Southeastern Conference play with 15 points against the Wildcats, the 6-foot-1 Umatilla native also wound up with just 1 assist to 4 turnovers. A behind the back pass attempt by Hill that sailed out of bounds was one unnecessary, risky play in a game where possessions were valuable. “The one thing I didn’t like was the four turnovers,” Hill said. “I thought he got deep a couple of times and tried to make some plays that weren’t there and it hurt us, although some of those drives in the first half really helped us. Hopefully it’s something he can learn from and grow from and get better at.”
– Freshman forward Devin Robinson also was unable to make much of an impact off the bench, finishing with just 2 points, 2 rebounds and 2 turnovers in 16 minutes off the bench. Robinson came into the game averaging 11 points over his last five games, but had issues dealing with Kentucky’s physicality inside. The 6-foot-9, 190-pound Robinson clearly needs to keep getting stronger during the offseason.
– Florida finished with 11 fast break points, but in the final 10 minutes, was bogged down too much in the halfcourt, which played into Kentucky’s hands. With its length and size on defense, Kentucky held Florida to just nine points in the final 10:28 left. “I felt like we pushed the ball when we could,” Donovan said. But it wasn’t enough for the Gators to avoid their fifth straight road loss.
