Beyond the arc: 3 takeaways from Richmond game

Some observations from Florida’s 67-58 win over Richmond:

– Florida needs a second perimeter threat to emerge to complement sophomore guard Michael Frazier II. Frazier went 3 of 7 from 3-point range Saturday against Richmond. The rest of the Gators went a combined 2 for 12. Scottie Wilbekin and Dorian Finney-Smith are capable of making long-range shots but were a combined 1-of-7 from beyond the arc. Wilbekin is shooting 36 percent from 3-point range this season (12-33) after an 0-for-5 night.

– The Gators are putting in work on the backboard. Florida has outrebounded its last three opponents by a combined margin of 19 per game. But Florida netted just 11 second-chance points against Richmond and is averaging just 14.3 second-chance points during the stretch. Patric Young, Casey Prather, Will Yeguete and Dorian Finney-Smith need to take the ball up strong and finish on putback attempts. The worst that can happen is a foul and a trip to the line.

- It’s been a tough senior season for forward Will Yeguete, who had more turnovers (3) than points (2) Saturday against Richmond. Yeguete is still defending his tail off and no one will question his heart and effort. But part of the reason why he logged just 18 minutes against Richmond was his lack of judgement on ill-advised drives to the basket. Yeguete is at his best when he’s generating offense on putbacks or hustling down the floor, not forcing shots in the lane that aren’t there.
