Beyond the arc: 3 takeaways from UF’s 79-34 win over Jacksonville

Some observations following UF’s 79-34 win over Jacksonville:

– Freshman forward Devin Robinson and sophomore forward Chris Walker both took a step back on Sunday. Maybe it had to do with playing their third games in the span, but neither one came out with great focus. Robinson hit an early 3-pointer but was benched in the first half for lack of hustle and wound up with 3 points, 3 assists and 3 rebounds in 18 minutes. Walker was beaten off the dribble at times in the post on defense and wound up with 2 points, 5 rebounds and 1 blocked shot in 13 minutes. The 6-foot-10 Walker crashed the boards better, but had a string of three straight scoring games in double figures snapped.

– The Gators had another nice day executing its press, finishing the game with 19 points off 12 Jacksonville turnovers. Given UF’s on-and-off play in the halfcourt this season, the Gators will need to generate as many easy points as possible in the future to compete in Southeastern Conference play.

– With point guard Kasey Hill out with a stomach virus, Florida coach Billy Donovan had to use his seventh different starting lineup in 10 games this season. The Gators still played with good flow on offense, finishing with 18 assists to 9 turnovers. Freshman starting point guard Chris Chiozza and Hill combined for just 2 points, though. It would be nice to see Florida get more points from the point guard position moving forward. Donovan’s best teams have always had good scoring from the point, ranging from Teddy Dupay to Anthony Roberson to Taurean Green to Nick Calathes to Erving Walker to Scottie Wilbekin.
