Some observations following UF’s 67-55 win over Albany
– In the first half, Florida was ineffective creating havoc with its press. The Gators scored just 11 points off turnovers, the majority coming in the second half. Florida is at its best when it gets in the open floor and created easy scoring opportunities. That didn’t happen against the Great Danes.
– Some Florida players talked openly about not being “connected” offensively compared to previous games. Florida finished with an assist-to-turnover ratio of 11-to-10. At times, UF’s offense was stagnant figuring out Albany’s mix of zone defenses. It didn’t help that Will Yeguete and Patric Young failed to cleanly handle several passes inside. The duo combined for 5 of UF’s 10 turnovers.
– Want to take something positive from the Albany game? The Gators were much improved from the free-throw line. Florida made 14 of 18 attempts (.778) for its best free-throw shooting game since Feb. 22 at Ole Miss (.789). Young spent some extra time during pregame warmups working on free throws and went 2 for 3 at the line.
