Some observations following UF’s 72-50 win over Georgia:
– For as well as Florida has defended of late, the Gators still still need to a better job on the defensive boards. Florida allowed 15 second-chance points against Georgia. The Gators let up 23 second-chance points against Arkansas and have allowed an average of 15.5 offensive rebounds over their last two games.
– Florida also took a step back from the free-throw line against Georgia, making just 11 of 20 attempts. The Gators missed their first five free throw attempts against the Bulldogs.
– Florida coach Billy Donovan told me following the game he decided to start three guards to have some extra quickness on the floor to match up with Georgia’s backcourt. It resulted in better ball movement throughout the game. Starting in the backcourt together for the first time, freshman point guard Kasey Hill and senior point guard Scottie Wilbekin finished with a combined 10 assists and no turnovers. For Hill, it was a nice bounceback effort taking care of the ball after compiling an assist-to-turnover of 7 to 7 in his first two Southeastern Conference games.
