Some observations following UF’s 68-45 win over William & Mary:
– Freshman Devin Robinson is still a gunner, but Florida coach Billy Donovan thought the 6-foot-8 forward played a little bit more under control on Friday night. Robinson had 7 points, 4 rebounds and 1 blocked shot in his UF’s debut, going 3 of 8 from the floor. “It was good to see him get in the game and not just touch it and shoot it,” Donovan said. “He made a very good step from a week ago which was a positive for our team.” Freshman point guard Chris Chiozza showed good chemistry with Robinson, finding him for two of his three assists on an alley-oop and a feed in transition.
– Center Jon Horford displayed some versatility on offense, making a 3-pointer to start the game and then moving well with the floor spread to free himself up for open baskets underneath the basket. The Michigan transfer had 11 points on 4 of 5 shooting with 5 rebounds. “We’re such an unselfish team that if you get open, they are going to find you somehow,” Horford said.
– Florida battled hard on the boards throughout the game, outrebounding William & Mary 39-31. The Gators limited the Tribe to one shot for the entire first half, outrebounding William & Mary 23-10 in the first half. William & Mary had no offensive rebounds in the first half and just 7 for the game.
