Florida coach Billy Donovan did not sound disheartened that renovations for the O’Connell Center have been pushed back a year.
Asked for his reaction about the delay of the project, Donovan said: “I think that’s really between the school and the athletic department. They’re making all those decisions. I totally trust them with whatever is going on”
Florida announced Wednesday that it has pushed back the renovation of the O’Connell Center from this March to March of 2016. The school cited a change in the construction team, rising costs and an aggressive schedule as primary reasons for pushing back the project. Originally projected at $45 million, current estimates have the cost of the renovation at $60 million.
“I have not had any contact or conversations with contractors or architects,” Donovan said. “I understand it’s a pretty big project, cause you’re dealing with the school being heavily involved, along with the UAA, so whatever (Florida athletic director) Jeremy (Foley) and the school decides, I trust them.”
