Former Gator forward Matt Bonner earned his second NBA title ring when the San Antonio Spurs finished off the Miami Heat on Sunday night.
Bonner also won an NBA title ring with the Spurs in 2007. Overall, six Florida players have combined for 11 NBA titles. Nine of the 11 titles have come from players coached under current head coach Billy Donovan. The only exception is Vernon Maxwell, who won NBA title rings with the Houston Rockets in 1994 and 1995.
Bonner wasn’t a big factor for the Spurs in the NBA Finals series, averaging 1.3 points, .8 rebounds and 1.3 assists in four games off the bench. But the 6-foot-10 Bonner, a 10-year NBA veteran, has served a valuable role in recent years with the Spurs as a 3-point shooter with size off the bench.
At least one former Gator player has earned an NBA title in each of the last four years (Corey Brewer with Dallas in 2011, Mike Miller and Udonis Haslem with Miami Heat in 2012, Mike Miller and Udonis Haslem with Miami Heat in 2013, Matt Bonner with Spurs in 2014):
Here’s a look at former Gators who have won NBA championships:
Matt Bonner, San Antonio – 2007, 2014
Corey Brewer, Dallas – 2011
Udonis Haslem, Miami – 2006, 2012, 2013
Vernon Maxwell, Houston – 1994, 1995
Mike Miller, Miami – 2012, 2013
Jason Williams, Miami – 2006
