Since John Brantley has played so little in his brief Florida career, quite naturally there are some unknowns about the Gators’ No. 2 quarterback and heir apparent to Tim Tebow.
But there’s one element of his game we now know about following the spring: Brantley has some of that Tebow toughness about him.
Brantley went through the entire spring, and starred in the Orange and Blue Game, playing with a painful torn tendon in his right ankle that required surgery, which he eventually underwent on April 27.
“I had my good days and my bad days,” said the redshirt sophomore from Ocala. “It never got better. It just got worse.”
Brantley knew about the injury dating back to late last season, but he made the decision to put off surgery until after the spring because he said he felt he needed to go through spring practice to advance his development and prepare him for the 2009 season in case he’s needed.
It sounds like something Tebow would do.
