Under Jeremy Fowler's byline.
Filling the "Percy position" requires the versatility to take handoffs from the backfield, be the primary receiver and practically sell popcorn at The Swamp between quarters.
Good luck replacing that, Florida.
The rest of the story is HEREDuring spring practice, the Gators are evaluating whether their playmaking personnel can succeed Percy Harvin, who practically created his own position as hybrid running back/receiver in three years at UF.
Harvin's 1,304 all-purpose yards in 2008 almost eclipsed the 1,323 total from the Gators' top-five returning receivers on this spring's roster — Aaron Hernandez, Deonte Thompson, Riley Cooper, Carl Moore and David Nelson.
Coach Urban Meyer has been clear he doesn't want to throw out the position just because Harvin is gone.
"The people I talked to who tried to defend us [last season] said the two issues they had were Hernandez and Harvin," Meyer said. "Not just that they're great players, but they're matchup nightmares."
Hernandez is firmly stitched in Florida's offensive plans as one of the Southeastern Conference's best tight ends. After that it gets interesting.
