Florida wide receivers coach and recruiting coordinator Billy Gonzales is leaving the Gators to coach with Southeastern Conference rival LSU, the Sentinel confirmed Thursday night.
Gonzales’ wife, Julie, said nothing is finalized because the change is happening fast, but Gonzales is in talks to become the “pass-game coordinator” while also coaching wide receivers. LSU’s offensive coordinator is Gary Crowton.
Gonzales is a talented recruiter for the Gators and has coached NFL wide receivers Percy Harvin, Louis Murphy and Andre Caldwell. Gonzales is breaking a long-standing relationship with Florida coach Urban Meyer, who coached Gonzales while a wide receiver at Colorado State in the 90s. Gonzales coached with Meyer at all three of his head-coaching stops — Bowling Green in 2001, Utah in 2003 and Florida in 2005.
Gonzales is the second coach to leave the Gators this week. Defensive coordinator Charlie Strong officially took the Louisville job Wednesday.
Gonzales told the Sentinel earlier in the week that he didn’t have immediate plans to leave the Gators.

This is the new WR's coach, who previously coached at CMU. Seems like a up and coming coach, which is the type of people UF needs to hire.

Anyway, this better not impact recruiting. We've already had 5-star recruit Jeff Luc commit to FSU, and now there are reports that Elam is also considering FSU. If we lose him as well, we are in deep trouble. And if FSU gets all these recruits, you can expect them to win 10 games next year.

Why does it always seem that you have such a negative attitude?

You get all worked up over nothing; Elam's still coming to Florida. As far as replacing coaches who leave UF, I have faith in Coach Meyer that he will hire those who are the best fit for our program.

It seems as though Gonzales was harboring sour grapes over his not being promoted to the OC position, which was why he left for LSU. That's a sign of immaturity, if you ask me. And - if that attitude was of the reasons why we weren't effective in our passing game this year, then it's better to let him move on. We don't need ANYBODY with a negative attitude having an adverse effect on this team.

That's interesting....
Where did you hear/read that?
