After combining to win three events at the season-opening Big Ten/Southeastern Conference Challenge, University of Florida junior Beau Burroughs (Tampa, Fla.) and freshman Terrell Wilks (New Haven, Conn.) swept the men’s Athlete of the Week honors, the conference office announced Wednesday.
Burroughs bettered his indoor PR by more than three feet with a toss of 18.04m/59-2.25 in the shot put en route to collecting the first victory of his career last Saturday. The effort, which outdistanced the next-best competitor by more than half a meter, was also his first-career NCAA provisional mark and moved him into 10th place on UF all-time indoor list. Burroughs heave ranked fourth on the Jan. 21 NCAA indoor descending order list.
The only male runner to win multiple events at the Big Ten/SEC Challenge, Wilks finished first in both the 60m and 200m on his way to claiming SEC Male Runner of the Week and Male Freshman of the Week accolades. His time of 6.73 in the 60m earned him an NCAA provisional mark and moved him into eighth on Florida’s all-time chart. He stood eighth on the NCAA descending order list when the rankings were announced on Monday.
