UF's Calathes Named SEC Player of the Week

University of Florida sophomore point guard Nick Calathes was selected as SEC Player of the Week after leading the Gators to a pair of wins while flirting with triple-doubles in both games.
Calathes averaged 19.0 points, 8.5 rebounds, 8.0 assists, 3.5 steals and got to the free throw line 8.0 times per game over the Gators’ wins over Longwood and Ole Miss.
The Casselberry, Fla., native opened the week with his second double-double of the year with 19 points and 10 rebounds in the win over Longwood. Calathes added eight assists and three steals and hit 7-of-11 shots.
Against Ole Miss he posted 19 points, seven rebounds, eight assists and four steals, helping the Gators win their SEC opener. Calathes sealed the game for the Gators late with a steal, while going 4-of-4 from the free throw line in the final minutes.
Calathes leads the Gators in scoring on the year at 17.1 points per game and his team-leading 6.8 assists per game rank second in the SEC and ninth in the nation.
He is the first Gator to win the SEC Player of the Week honor since Corey Brewer did so on Feb. 12, 2007.
