Charlie Strong leading candidate for Louisville job

If he leaves, I would rather have him go to Louisville than Notre Dame. ND is where coaches go to die or end their college coaching careers.

Charlie Strong is long over due for a Head Coaching job. He's been one of the primary reasons for the success of our defense over the last decade. I hope he goes to Louisville and is successful there.

He should get any job in the country, but I will hate to see hime go. I live about an hour and a half from Louisville and word is he is #1 on their list way ahead of anyone else. Good luck coach.

i think he'll stay if UF makes a counter offer... something like a $1 million salary should do.. Monte Kiffin makes $1.2...:confused0082:

Urban Meyer needs to make every attempt to keep Charlie Strong, at least until UM can grow a replacement (assuming Charlie would not take the replacement with him as part of the staff).

I'm keeping my fingers crossed for Charlie, too. As much as he would like a head-coaching job, I hope he stays another year or two with Coach Meyer.

Well I think most of us in Strong's position would take the head coaching job.

My main concern right now is recruiting; we lost Jeff Luc to the school out west in part because of all the rumors about Strong being a candidate at Louisville. Sure it's the "nature of the beast" in college football, but I don't want to see the quality of this recruiting class jeopardized because of this or other nonsense that goes around on the rumor mill.

This might hurt my plans for a Gator dynasty. Oh well. Who's next in line for defensive coordinator?

Hard to say; I have an inkling that Coach Meyer may promote from within again and give the DC posiiton to Dan McCarney, but I could be wrong.

It's pretty much inevitable that Charlie Strong's leaving us, but I hope that he'll show the same courtesy to the Gators that Dan Mullen did last year before he left for Miss. State and coach in the Sugar Bowl.

(Update #1: According to David Jones at Florida Today, Strong will accept the opportunity to coach the Gator defense in the Sugar Bowl - http://www2.tbo.com/content/2009/dec/09/ufs-strong-confirms-hes-taking-louisville-job/sports-colleges/ )

(Update #2: To dispel the "Slantinel"s stupid rumors, per Ben Volin at the PBP Billy Gonzales is NOT going to the Ville w/ Strong - http://blogs.palmbeachpost.com/gatorbytes/2009/12/09/charlie-strong-heading-to-louisville-and-billy-gonzales-says-hes-not-going-with-him/ )
