Chris Rainey

Hopefully we get a better idea of how bad his injury is soon. His loss hurts this team for the obvious reasons, however also hurts our special teams with his two blocked punts this year.

Hope its not as serious as it seems.

^^ What are we going to miss the most about him? His inability to break the big run this year? His dancing in the backfield instead of hitting the hole when he needs to? His missed blocking assignments on the rare occasions that he's in there for pass protection? Or him taking away carries from the almighty Moody?

I guess we could use him to block some more punts...

That's what we're going to miss.

^^Well then I hope he doesn't miss any time. As long as he can block a punt every 6 games, who cares if he completely stalls our offense.

I have to agree with leakbrewergator (again) on this one. Gimme my yardage, or you don't get my sympathy. I hope you heal soon, Rainey, but while you're out be sure to study the video footage of you getting stuffed at the hole on every stinkin' dive play. Review the coaches notes on blocking.

^^ Exactly. It sucks that this kid is hurt, but his injury could be a good thing for him. I KNOW it will benefit Florida's offense. It seems Urb and Coach Adazzio have been going out of their way to get Rainey the ball. The production from him has just completely disappeared this season.

^^ True he did have a good game against Miss. St. But don't let that ypc avg fool you. That number is greatly inflated by his 1 carry for 76 yard performance against the juggernaut defense of Charleston Southern.

If you take away that game, and the Troy game (12 carries for 85 yards) and use just SEC stats, Rainey has 44 carries for 219 yards. That's still a decent 4.9 ypc. But that puts him well behind Florida's team average ypc in SEC play.(Not counting the 12718748 Tebow sacks.)

Like I said, he had a great game against Miss St. But that was just ONE game. Here's his totals in the rest of Florida's SEC games:

4 rushes 12 yards
6 rushes 6 yards
4 rushes 11 yards
9 rushes 36 yards
9 rushes 64 yards

I know I'm being hard on Rainey, but I was expecting so much out of him heading into this season. I really thought he could have been the starter over Demps. I was wrong. Demps is clearly the best back on our roster. Moody is a better running back than Rainey. Even Mike Gillislee has impressed me more than Rainey. His blocked punts are exceptional, but he should be doing a lot more for us.

We'll miss him if he can't come back, that's for sure.

I hope Gilleslie (sp?) is ok as well.

Gillislee*...Mike is really good at change of direction and he is bigger than Rainey with more power.....i played against him in High School at Deland and he is a game changer...as a 6'4 255 pound guy even when i tackled him he was hard to put down...he is good and might be better for us than Rainey

I too thought Rainey was our best back coming into the season, but Demps is hitting the holes with lightning speed and quickness, and we haven't really seen that from Rainey. Moody has been doing great, I think the coaches need to have a script of plays each game for him, it seems like they don't use him enough. It would be great to see a package with Moody in the backfield with Tebow, and Demps coming in motion from the slot... that would keep the defenses guessing.
