Gainesville, FL University of Florida men’s tennis newcomer Jeff Dadamo (Tampa) was named the Southeastern Conference Men’s Tennis Freshman of the Week as announced by the league Tuesday.
Dadamo clinched both Florida matches this past week as the Gators posted a 4-3 win over USF before going on to knock off No. 14 Florida State, 5-2, a day later.
On the singles courts, Dadamo took out the Bulls' Diego Toledo in straight sets (7-5, 6-3) on Friday. The next day, he defeated Florida State's Clint Bowles (6-2, 3-6, 6-4), who won the 2007 National Clay Court Championships and entered the match as one of the nation's highest-ranked freshmen at No. 78. Dadamo's victory over Bowles came on court three, where the UF freshman was making his first appearance of the season.
Dadamo was one of five freshmen to appear in the singles lineup for the Gators against the Seminoles. With the win, UF has defeated FSU in eight of the nine meetings in head coach Andy Jackson's seven-year tenure at the helm of the Florida program.
