It turned out to be a big night for the Southeastern Conference in the NBA draft.
Not only did the SEC boast the top three overall picks, but wound up with eight first-round picks, the most in league history.
The previous high for first-round picks in the NBA draft was six in both 1996 and 1992. The SEC had five five-round picks in 2010, 2000 and 1985.
Here’s a list of first-round draft picks from the SEC in the 2012 draft.
1. — Anthony Davis, center, Kentucky, New Orleans Hornets
2. — Michael Kidd-Gilchrist, forward, Kentucky, Charlotte Bobcats
3. — Bradley Beal, guard, Florida, Washington Wizards
18 — Terrence Jones, forward, Kentucky, Houston Rockets
23 — John Jenkins, guard, Vanderbilt, Atlanta Hawks
27 — Arnett Moultrie, forward, Mississippi State, Miami Heat
29 — Marquis Teague, guard, Kentucky, Chicago Bulls
30 — Festus Ezeli, center, Vanderbilt, Golden State Warriors.
A full SEC draft history can be found here.
The SEC finished third in the nation in Conference RPI this past season, behind the Big Ten and Big East. Kentucky won the national title in 2012, while Florida reached the Elite Eight for the second straight season.
