I don't know FSU's situation, but Meyer might be able to promise him more playing time. We'll see what happens, like Escambia said-don't believe it till the ink is on the paper.

I am not sure I would want this guy at this point. Why would the Gators want a guy who apparently his word or committment means nothing? I am sure he is a great player but I would pass.

Because Meyer obviously sees something in this kid, or he would've already let him go to FSU and forgotten about him.

I agree with Escambia; it's not official 'til the sig is on the dotted line.

IMHO, Elam was a bit hasty in his original decision to de-commit from the Gators and go over to the SOW; perhaps it took something on Elam's part to listen to what Coach Meyer had to say regarding his LOA and how he would fit in to the defensive lineup. Plus, they had established a family relationship in the past.

If he decides to re-commit to UF and wonds up signing with us, I have no problem with that.

Hindsight is 20-20; but also, haste makes mistakes.

I don't blame the kid. He wants to be a Gator under Urban Meyer, not Steve Addazzio. I can understand if he made a hasty decision based on his gut feeling at the time. Have we not learned from Coach Meyer that this is pretty much what happened to him? Have we not all been through something like this in our own lives? Even if he does change his mind back to SOW, it's his life to live and his mistake to suffer through. If he makes the right call and comes to UF, I will welcome him.

Elam, speaking with Kipp Adams and Anthony Dasher of Rivals by text message, said, “I’m decommitting. Florida is first for me right now, followed by Georgia and Florida State is third.” Wait a minute…the Georgia Bulldogs? “It is very possible,” he said. “I am still talking to Georgia for sure. When I went on my official visit to Georgia, it really felt like home.”

Dwyer High School’s premier athlete also opened up about his desire to receive significant playing time as a freshman, citing the fact that both Florida and Florida State have eight safeties (give-or-take) on scholarship. The story that never ends will likely have a conclusion Saturday, when Elam is expected to announce his official selection during the Army All-American Game in San Antonio, TX.

I believe Urban Meyer is a man of his word, and if he was dead set against returning to UF, then Elam wouldn't have decommited from F$U - that, and other recruits would have decided to go elsewhere.

I'm glad Meyer cleared the air with Elam; I'd rather these kids hear what's really going on directly from him instead of hearing lies from some cockamamie rumor mill, some "source" or a rival coach who's intent is to disrupt UF's recruiting class and try to poach our verbals.

(FWIW here's Ben Volin's take on it all: http://blogs.palmbeachpost.com/gatorbytes/2010/01/07/matt-elam-loving-the-attention/ )
