Ex-UF Star a 'Role Model' at Alma Mater

"My goal now is to become a good coach that produces a lot of guys that go on to college and get degrees," Cornelius said. "My goal is to also win the state championship, but I want my players to use football as a vehicle to set themselves up to be able to provide for themselves and their family.

"Coming up, a lot of guys in the community had potential that didn't really get maxed out," he said. "I love the city. I want to do my part in the community to help the young men so they can grow up and be productive and then come back and pass it on to the community."

It is Cornelius' own version of the movie "Pay It Forward," in which someone does a good deed for another person and instead of giving back, that person does a good deed for someone else.

"He's a role model," said Fort Meade athletic director Archie Gale. "Even though he's a young kid, he came across as a well-organized person. What helps us more is than anything having him here is the community knows him. He's a good, organized, moral person.
HIS QUOTE TO LIVE BY: 'The supreme function of a leader is to set a standard and demand that others live up to it.' — Urban Meyer
The rest of the story is HERE.
Just one more example of the kind of success Urban Meyer seeks for his charges.

Great article; another reason why I'm glad Meyer stresses academics as much as he does. Not every UF football alum will succeed in the NFL, and at least Jemalle Cornelius had something to fall back on with his degree. He was one of Meyer's "Faces of Florida Football", and I for one couldn't be happier for him.

Meyer is so awesome! Remember when he was new, he told team players (that ended up winning the 2006 championship) get right in school or get off the team.
He is amazing.
And I'm glad my son (who'll be a high school freshman next fall) has Coach Meyer and the good role models he brings up to look up to.
