Five Gators that must play better immediately

"In his Monday press conference, Florida coach Urban Meyer listed off six defensive players that graded out at champion level against Miami (Ohio).

Then he got to the offense.

“You had one,” he said. “Marcus Gilbert played, uh, well. Other than that, we need to do a lot of work.”

Some of the players who did not hit the champion threshold still played well. Quarterback John Brantley was solid, though it’s hard to believe this team is going to a BCS bowl if it continues to average 6.6 yards per completion.

Here are five players who graded out at whatever the opposite of champion is and need to make a quick turnaround today against South Florida":

They make it sound like moving Pouncey back to guard is a bad thing. Put him where he plays well. For three years, he played guard well. Why change it, especially if Robey is a good center?

How did we overlook Debose entirely? Was it the blue jersey that threw off the WR coach?

I give Deonte Thompson a bye. Maybe he was holding back so we don't give away our playbook against a nobody opponent. Ya know, the pass completion in the end zone is a very secretive play that should never be used on a weak opponent--save that for the big boys.

Should we switch Moore and Hines? Hines caught more passes as a TE than Moore as a WR. Moore actually blocked on occasion. Sounds like a TE to me.

Florida has a rich history of Defensive Ends. We need to start registering sacks. Our DEs are more experienced than our LBs, so let's show the world what our 4-3 does. If we aren't even going to press the QB, why not line up in 3-4? With a dual-threat QB, why not try the 46? Back to the fundamentals--get to the QB and stop the run.

On offense, we need to own the line of scrimmage. We have some big dudes, and most of the O-line is back.

All in all, we have all the pieces to get back on track for a high-octane offense that was predicted before last week.

IMO that one long pass from Brantley to Thompson was catchable and had Deonte been in total control it would have resulted in six.

In his presser on Thursday, even Urban admitted some of these kids were nervous last week. Hopefully they've settled down a bit and now know what to expect.

Everybody is questioning why Robey didn't see action last weekend - he wasn't 100% recovered from an injury.
