Help UF support the community at this week's basketball games

If you plan on attending.....
The University of Florida encourages fans to a toy to donate to the Toys for Tots program before Wednesday’s basketball doubleheader. The women will take on Coppin State at 5:30 p.m., and the men will face Florida Gulf Coast at 8:00 p.m.

Toys will be collected by the United States Marine Corps, on behalf of the Toys for Tots program, from 4:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. outside of Gate 1 of the Stephen C. O’Connell Center. Fans who donate a toy of approximately $5 in value will receive a voucher to purchase 2-for-1 general admission tickets at the ticket office.

Programs such as Toys for Tots have had limited donations recently due to the current state of the economy. Gator fans are encouraged to come out and support a great program that makes such a difference in many children’s lives during the holiday season.

Later in the week, fans will have the chance to donate gently used clothing before the women’s basketball game vs. Florida A&M on Friday, Dec. 12 at 7:00 p.m. With a donation, fans will receive free admission for two to the women’s game. Donations will taken up starting at 6:00 p.m. outside of Gate 1 of the O’Connell Center. Donations will benefit local Gainesville families.

Gators beat Florida Gulf Coast, 94-60

Sophomore forward Alex Tyus (St. Louis, Mo.) and senior guard Walter Hodge (Guaynabo, Puerto Rico) scored 19 points apiece to lead Florida over Florida Gulf Coast 94-60 on Wednesday night at the Stephen C. O’Connell Center.

The Gators improved to 7-2 on the season, and 21-0 against teams from the Atlantic Sun Conference under coach Billy Donovan.

This game was close for a while. The lead changed seven times in the first half and the Eagles (2-6) were up 28-27 with 3:29 to go before the break. Sophomore guard Reed Baker hit five 3-pointers in the opening period for FGCU, but the Gators began to pound the ball inside using their height advantage, and pulled away to take a 37-29 lead at the half.
