The No. 1 Florida Gators will host their in-state rival this weekend, the Florida State Seminoles on Saturday afternoon in The Swamp. The Gators have now won a school-record 21 straight games, which is also the longest current streak in the nation. Florida State is currently unranked with a 6-5 record and many people are saying this could be Bobby Bowden's final game against Florida. Will the Seminoles rally up? Will Meyer crush them into a .500 record? Kickoff is at 3:30 PM EST and the game will be aired on CBS.
Florida State has been down in recent years, but this game is still one of the biggest rivalries in all of college football. Florida fans would NEVER pull for an FSU team - no matter what. The last time the Seminoles beat the Gators was in 2003, in Gainesville. I was a junior that year and at the game. It was the famous "ACC Refs" game - just the most horrible calls you've ever seen in your life. There were so many fumbles/non-fumbles called in FSU favor's many of us thought the fix was in for FSU. A fight even broke out after the game after some FSU players jumped on our "F" logo at midfield.
"There's a lot of hatred," Gators safety Ahmad Black said. "It started even before us. It goes way back to the earlier days. We're just going to try to keep it going. We've won five straight, so we don't want to be the team that loses the streak."
Bobby Bowden is not too confident in his team. "Two years they've ripped us," Florida State coach Bobby Bowden said Sunday. "I imagine they ripped everybody else the same way. We're about like anybody else. We just have to play the best we can do. That's all we can do."
Florida State has the No. 106 ranked defense in the country - they're giving up 434.36 yards/game. That does not bode well for the Seminoles, who have to face the nation's best quarterbacks and one of the top rushing attacks in college football. Tim Tebow, Jeff Demps, Chris Rainey and Riley Cooper are going to shred this defense.
Urban Meyer is a classy guy, but I'm expecting a massive beat down on Saturday. The gators are favored by 24 points - I think that is a number we can cover. The Gators haven't covered many games this year, but I'm seeing a final score along the lines of 45-10. What do you think?
