After landing Michigan forward Jon Horford, Florida apparently isn’t done on the transfer market.
The Gators are in the mix USF transfer center John Egbunu, per a report from CBSSports.com’s Jon Rothstein. According to Rothstein, Edgbunu visited Michigan State on Wednesday will visit Georgetown this weekend. It’s unclear if or when he’ll visit UF, but Egbunu reportedly also has interest in Arizona and the Gators.
The 6-foot-10, 245-pound Egbunu averaged 7.4 points and 6.2 rebounds as a freshman at USF before opting to transfer this spring after Stan Heath was fired. A McDonough, Ga., nativc, Egbunu displayed a strong power game as a high school recruit and it translated favorably to the college level.
The tricky part? Florida currently has no scholarship room to add Egbunu unless a current player transfers or voluntarily gives up his scholarship.
Egbunu wouldn’t be eligible to play until the 2015-16 season, but would provide some good frontcourt insurance in the future. The Gators will definitely lose C Damontre Harris and F Jon Horford to graduation following the 2014-15, and could lose forwards Chris Walker and/or forward Dorian Finney-Smith if both have strong seasons and decide to declare early for the NBA draft.
