"It's a God-given gift, so you have to ask God," Chris Rainey said after Saturday night's season opening 41-3 win over Florida Atlantic at the swap.
Rainey, referring to his tremendous ability to make plays with the ball in his hand, becomes of the first player since 1996 to score a touchdown by receiving, returning a punt and rushing.
The combination of Rainey and Jeff Demps as well as solid afternoon for quarterback John Brantley re-invigourates Gator fans and re-confirms what many already believed: Charlie Weis is an offensive mastermind, and Will Muschamp knows a thing about defense.
All things considered it's hard to imagine Muschamp's Gator debut could have gone much better.
"If you had a script of what you wanted to occur in the night, for the most part it did," the coach said after the game.
The defense snuffed out the Owls attacked limiting them to just a field goal in the entire game.
Rainey finishes with 79 yards rushing on 11 carries, with six catches for 67 yards and three total touchdowns.
Demps finishes with 12 carries and 105 yards rushing with two rushing touchdowns and three catches for 21 yards.
Combined Demps and Rainey totaled 324 all-purpose yards.
Brantley had two interceptions but completed a very good 21 of 30 passing attempts with 229 yards and a touchdown.
Junior running back Mike Gillislee got into the action with 5 carries and 17 yards as well.
Overall it's a tremendous way to start the season and the Gators should see their No. 22 ranking in the AP poll move up as well as the No. 23 ranking they have in the Coaches' poll.
MORE TO COME including more reaction from head coach Will Muschamp and the players.
