The rest of the story.......No player has ever committed to play basketball for Billy Donovan earlier than Austin Rivers.
The sophomore guard from Winter Park High School pledged to Donovan's Gators last summer and won't be changing his mind.
"No chance," the son of Boston Celtics' coach Doc Rivers said after his team was defeated last week in the FHSAA Class 6A state semifinals by Orlando Olympia.
Rivers said he committed early to "get it out of the way" and added he had numerous reasons for selecting UF.
"My connection with the coaches," said Rivers, who can't sign a national letter of intent until November of 2010. "It's a beautiful campus, good academic school, a great basketball school ... so I figured what can be better than that?"
The earliest previous commitment to Donovan was current All-SEC guard Nick Calathes, who did so following his sophomore season at Lake Howell.
In addition to planning for being a future Gator, Rivers also would love to be a teammate of Class of 2010 guard Brandon Knight of Fort Lauderdale Pine Crest.
