I have to ask

How come they didn't do the same thing with Tebow that the Gators are doing with Burton which is use him as TE and Tebow was a tight end in HS before going to another school?

I have two possible answers. Either Urban Meyer's Plan to Win spread offense was not ready for the tight end back in '06, or Burton has certain skills that Tebow does not possess with respect to the Urban Attack.

I read somewhere that Urban Meyer has been evolving his spread offense, and only recently adding in the tight end. He never used tight ends before he got to Florida, but we had a good one at the time and we gained Aaron Hernandez to help the coach develop his modified spread. On top of that, although Timmy will never be forgotten as the greatest Gator player in history, he may lack certain skills that Burton may bring to the table to help the spread where Tebow would not have fit.

The coaches aren't completely convinced that Trey can be a throwing quarterback. They were however convinced that Tebow could throw despite what NFL analysts will tell you. So they didn't want to get Tebow spread out too thin at different positions when Meyer knew for a fact that the kid would be his quarterback.

I think as of right now, the coaches think in the back of their mind that Jeff Driskel is going to be our throwing quarterback after Brantley leaves. We might be seeing a dual quarterback system for a very long time.

It might be interesting to see how Driskel challenges Brantley next year, since Driskel also can run. From what I can see, Driskel is like Leak and Tebow in one body. Next year will be interesting. This year will be interesting with Brantley and Burton. I think Burton will develop into a passer in his own right, at least enough to keep the defenses honest.

in '06 we had two scholarship QB's. Leak and Tebow. And we had CI at TE. And Billy Latsko. So it wouldn't have really made a difference it we tried out Tebow at the TE/H-back position.

And as stated above by Escambia, the TE position has been utilized more and more as the years go by.
