GAINESVILLE, Fla. — "For most of his life, John Brantley has been practicing for this role. Now, as Florida's new starting quarterback, he's living it.
Brantley has been wearing a Gators jersey since age 3. His first uniform was complete with little pads, white pants, a helmet and a minifootball. Dressed in Gators gear, he would spend hours playing football on his parents' king-size bed. "Banging off the wall, falling off the bed," says his father, John. "That's where it got started."
Still, all those years of imagining this moment, he probably never envisioned the daunting task of replacing a legend."
