Gator Fan
This truly is the most exciting time of the year for hoops fans. Gator fans in particular have a lot to look forward to.
With a 78-51 over Alabama Tuesday night UF only needs to win their final game, albeit easier said than done, at Vanderbilt this Saturday and they will win the SEC Title. They will be the East division No. 1 seed and will play their first game in the SEC Tournament next Friday night against the winner of the East fifth seed and the West 4th seed, which at this point would be Tennessee vs Ole Miss.
Though UF put up 78 points against 'Bama the most impressive thing about this team continues to be its defense, allowing a good Tide team to shoot just 12-percent from the 3-point line (1-8) and only 21 made baskets.
Defense against Travis Relaford could have been better, he scored 17 on 6 of 9 shooting, but beyond that everyone else was locked down.
For the bracketology geeks out there, here is how Florida sits with one game remaining and possibly 3 in the SEC Tourney.
RPI: 11
Strength of schedule: 7
Vs. Division-1: 23-6
Conference record: 12-3
Vs. the RPI Top 25: 4-2
Vs. the RPI Top 50: 8-3
Losses to the RPI Top 50:
RPI Date
2 Nov. 16 Ohio State 75-93
48 Dec. 1 UCF* 54-57
12 Feb. 26 @ Kentucky 68-76
Losses to the RPI 101-150
RPI DATE OPPONENT SCORE
134 Dec. 20 Jacksonville 68-71
112 Jan. 15 South Carolina 69-72
111 Jan. 29 @ Mississippi State 64-71
Those last three loses could move the Gators off of a three seed and into a four seed, when measuring a complete season against another team.
Right now the Gators are a 3 or a 4-seed, and where they end up obviously depends a lot on Saturday against Vandy.
To use a cliche, they control their own destiny in terms of the seed. One thing they can't control is if they play in Tampa for the second and third rounds.
-Here is the official bracket for this year's tournament. With the expanded field the first-round so to speak now begins on Tuesday, with 8 games for two days, with the traditional first-round beginning on Thursday.

-Chandler Parsons was named to the SEC Community Service Team on Tuesday
-Billy Donovan has to be considered a favorite for SEC coach of the year, it would be his first believe it or not.
-The Spring Football Game is Saturday, April 9 Noon. The game will be televised on Sun Sports. Tim Tebow said this week he is planning on being in Gainesville that weekend for the game.
-Speaking of Tebow, he probably won't get much action at QB next season in Denver unless there is an injury to Kyle Orton or a the latter loses the job.
John Elway said this week on Mile High Radio, "Tim came in and started the last three games and played well but was also very raw… If we sit here right now Kyle [Orton] would be the starter."
-Former Gator safety Ahmad Black ran the 40 in 4.74 and 4.78 at the Scouting Combine in Indianapolis last week. He is projected as a second or third rounder in April's draft.
-The Gators baseball team lost to Florida State Tuesday night, their first defeat of the season. UF hosts Miami this Friday night at 7 p.m.
The next time we talk the NCAA Bracket will be released and the Madness will truly begin.
