Here are some pertinent details about Gator recruit Mike Davis, a class of 2012 commitment.

Mike Davis Running Back Stone Mountain High School, Stephenson, GA 5-foot-9 198 lbs.

Davis had offers from top schools Auburn, Florida State, Georiga Tech and Tennessee among others. He committed to the Gators on February 19, 2011.

According to all available information, Davis isn't going to waiver on his decision, though he continues to receive offers from across the country. He's in communication with the Gators staff in terms of preparing to land in Gainesville next year.

He's the second RB in the class of 2012 to commit to the Gators, along with Matt Jones who committed on Feb. 15.

Davis has incredible speed and the ability to change direction and break to the outside as you will see in the video below.

It will be interesting to see where and how he would be used next season and beyond with what should continue to be a very strong position for the Gators.

In his junior year at Stephenson he was a backup running back but still managed to rack up 1,2000 yard rushing and 14 TDS.

His older brother, James Davis, played at Clemson and currently is the the Washington Redskins roster.

Davis' Stephenson high teammate and class of 2012 DT JaFar Mann has given his commitment to the Gators as well.

It has been reported he runs the 40 in 4.5, though not confirmed.

-----------

-Speaking of Stephenson High School, Class of 2012 recruit Raphael Kirby committed to Miami, over the Gators Tuesday night. He was considered one of the top linebackers in the south.

-Coach Will Muschamp did have one interesting tidbit during his Gator Club tour stop last week not previously reported in this space.

He's having the Gators run long-distance as part of the offseason conditioning program to test their toughness. Ouch.

That among other reasons may be why some guys are cutting out early under Muschamp's program.

He's going to make them work and work hard.

In general, as much as we like to poke fun at Muschamp repeating the same lines over and over again for $35 a head each week.

There really has been quite a bit of positive reaction among Gator fans about Muschamp's speaking tour, especially in comparison to Urban Meyer.

Speaking to the Palm Beach Post, Florida associate athletic director Steve McClain said that fans are "remembering Urban at the end as opposed to what he was like in the beginning. That's just human nature. Will's pretty fresh right now."

Last year Urb sent out offensive coordinator Steve Addazio to do the job.

Muschamp tells the Tampa Tribune about the speeches, "I think over a period of time people will see the hard work, the discipline, the commitment to excellence. I don't think you need to go stand in front of an audience and sell yourself. I don't necessarily look at it as selling yourself. I look at it as part of the job of being head football coach at the University of Florida."

Muschamp will be in Tallahassee Tuesday night.

-ESPN's SportsNation took a poll of college fans who then picked the Gators as being the biggest disappointment in the SEC among 5 teams for the 2011 football season.

Out of 35,000 plus votes, the Gators were picked by 35-percent of fans to be the biggest disappointment, South Carolina finished at 27-percent, Arkansas at 16-percent, Alabama at 12-percent and Mississippi State at 11-percent. The rest of the conference was not on the ballot.

-Carlos Alvarez who played at UF in the early 70's as a wide receiver will be inducted to the College Football Hall of Fame this December. Alverez still holds the Gator all-time receiving yards record.

-Jeff Demps and Chris Rainey were each disqualified from the 100 meter event this weekend at the SEC Championship because of false starts. The men's Championship was won by Arkansas with the Gators finishing second, while LSU won the women's championship, with the Gators finishing second as well.
