Florida rounded out its coaching staff under new head coach Michael White on Thursday night when Dusty May joined the staff as an assistant coach.

BleedTechBlue.com first reported May coming to Florida after the 39-year-old assistant was dropped from consideration from being promoted to head coach at Lousiana Tech.

May began his career as a student manager at Indiana under Bobby Knight, then worked as a video coordinator at IU under Mike Davis. He also spent two seasons as an assistant under Davis at UAB and held staff posts at Murray State and Eastern Michigan before joining White’s staff at Louisiana Tech.

As a result, White has brought all three of his assistants from Louisiana Tech, along with director of basketball operations Kyle Church. Last season, White and his staff posted a 27-9 overall record and 15-3 record in Conference USA. Current UF assistant coaches Darris Nichols (28) and Jordan Mincy (28) came from Louisiana Tech on Monday. All three of White’s assistants are under the age of 39 and none have prior head coaching experience.

In an interview with WRUF’s Steve Russell on Thursday, White said he felt it was important to have continuity in his coaching staff in his first season at Florida.

“We’ve worked well together and had success together, going 15-3 in Conference USA,” White said in the interview. “They are good coaches and more importantly good character people that I feel comfortable having our student athletes around.”

Other notes:

– Florida officially granted 2015 signee Noah Dickerson was officially granted his release from his Letter of Intent on Thursday, without restrictions. But an obscure SEC bylaw may prevent the 6-foot-8 power forward from Montverde (Fla.) Academy to transfer to another SEC school. There is thought that Dickerson may want to join former Montverde teammate Ben Simmons at LSU, which would help a Tigers frontline depleted by underclassmen Jarell Martin and Jordan Mickey declaring for the NBA draft. UF’s staff is still awaiting work whether 2015 signee guard KeVaughn Allen also will ask out of his LOI. Signees Keith Stone (6-8, f) and Kevarrius Hayes (6-9, f) have confirmed they intend to honor their LOIs and play under White next season.

– ESPN.com’s Jeff Borzello is reporting that former Gator assistant coach Rashon Burno will indeed accept a position on Tim Miles’ staff at Nebraska.
