Memphis accused of major NCAA violations under Calipari

"If the allegations brought forth by the NCAA on Jan. 16 (and made public on Wednesday in a letter obtained by the Memphis Commercial Appeal) are true -- the most serious of which is that a player, which a source indicates is star point guard Derrick Rose, committed "knowing fraudulence" by having an "unknown individual" take his SAT -- then Memphis will likely have to vacate the entire '07-08 season for using an ineligible player. Douglas-Roberts' and Rose's missed free throws late in that '08 title game were widely considered to be karmic retribution for Calipari poo-pooing the media's obsession with Memphis' poor free-throw shooting on the season. But perhaps those misses were preemptive intervention by the basketball gods, in order to avoid having the first-ever championship vacated by the NCAA. (There have been 10 Final Fours vacated due to violations, but never a national title.)"

Memphis finds no proof former player cheated on SATs

Why should this surprise anyone? Internal investigations should be handled by external investigators.
Memphis says it should keep the victories from the 2007-08 season which ended in the national title game after an internal investigation turned up no proof that a former men's basketball player cheated on his SAT exam. "Certainly, the University of Memphis should not suffer a financial penalty or vacation of records for the 2008 NCAA tournament as a result of this allegation," according to a report detailing the school's investigation into NCAA allegations.
The report, released to The Associated Press and other news outlets Tuesday under a public records request, details Memphis' internal probe into accusations that a former player allowed a stand-in to take his SAT. The report also looked into charges of grade tampering on behalf of the player.
Most names in the report were redacted by the school because of privacy concerns, but an attorney for former Memphis star Derrick Rose has acknowledged that Rose cooperated with an investigation of similar allegations while still a student.

Awesomeness
I wish Memphis would have made this public when they first found out about it. UK would have never hired Calipari with this hanging over his head.
