SANDESTIN -- "Florida coach Urban Meyer became so concerned over chest pains he was suffered for the past three years that became even worse during the 2009 football season that he almost gave up his job - first announcing he was leaving the program then changing his mind before the Sugar Bowl.
Meyer, who will turn 46 on July 10 , took a break from coaching, instead, and had several medical tests. He revealed for the first time at Tuesday's opening day of the SEC spring meetings here that his heart - the first concern - is completely healthy and the issue is his esophagus and he is on medication.
"The biggest thing is I wanted to find out what those darn chest pains were and I did,'' Meyer said. "It’s esophageal spasms and they’ve got me on some medications. I’ve just got to be smarter in the future and I’m going to be. I’m not going to let that happen again."
