"For the second time in three days, Urban Meyer indicated Wednesday on the Southeastern Conference Coaches Teleconference that there is a growing sense of urgency with his football team after their disappointing 32-14 season opening win over Miami (OH) last Saturday. Meyer went so far as to compare what he’s seeing on the practice field from the 6th-ranked Gators to what he saw from Florida’s 2006 national championship team. Going into Saturday’s contest with USF (12:21 p.m., Ben Hill Griffin Stadium, SEC Network), Meyer knows the Gators better be fully focused and better prepared to execute the game plan if they’re going to start the season 2-0.
“Probably the best example was 2006,” Meyer said while answering a question about what he’s seeing from the Gators this week in practice. “That team was on a mission. They were urgent about everything we did. I hope we’ll be talking about this team that same way. I feel it right now. I feel guys really going at it and trying to improve.”
