Miller turns back clock again

At 34, former Gator standout Mike Miller is still displaying the ability to come up big in big moments in an NBA playoff series.

Miller scored a team-high 21 points for the Memphis Grizzlies in a 100-99 overtime win against the Oklahoma City Thunder in a Game 5 playoff win Tuesday night. The 13-year NBA veteran made 5 of 8 3-pointers, including two in overtime, and added three assists and three steals in 31 minutes off the bench.

“Mike Miller,” Memphis coach Dave Joerger said, shaking his head during the postgame news conference. “What he did offensively was tremendous.”

The 6-foot-8 Miller is no longer being asked to a carry a team the way he did early in his career in stints with the Orlando Magic, Memphis, Minnesota and Washington. But he’s still capable of playing at an All-Star level on certain nights. With the Miami Heat, Miller made seven 3-pointers and 23 points in the Heat’s NBA title clinching, Game 5 win over the Oklahoma City Thunder in the 2012 NBA Finals.

Miller was let go by the Heat for salary cap reasons following the 2013 season, but has found a home back with Memphis. Miller has averaged 7.1 points and 2.5 rebounds off the bench for the Grizzlies this season while shooting 45.9 percent from 3-point range.
