Must Win Tonight!!!

Seriously... this time it's a must win for the Gators. They need to beat Miss State or else they're done for.

Too bad Calathes doesn't think so. "I'm not looking at it like that," said sophomore guard Nick Calathes, averaging a team-best 18.4 points a game. "I'm looking at it like we're going to make the tournament. And I think we will."

Looks like the best we can hope for now is a decent showing in the SEC tourney and an NIT invite.

There was a comment during the game last night that the loss of Marrese Speights to early NBA entry hurt this team, and seeing that Nick Calathes has been the only one emerging as a strong leader of this year's team, I tend to think along those lines as well.

There are definite pros and cons with Dan Werner; that guy has caused me more frustration this season than anyone would know. When he's on his game he can nail those treys; when he's bad he causes problems for us - especially when he stands in the paint on defense and does nothing, or causes costly turnovers.

This season sort of reminds me of the one Bobby Knight had at Indiana during the "Season on the Brink" (FWIW I have the movie on DVD) when it seemed that Steve Alford was pretty much "the man" for the Hoosiers as Calathes is now to the Gators. They managed to bounce back and win a title the following year, and with both good recruiting and experience behind them the Gators will, too, in 2010.
