My initial thoughts on Urban

I was traveling during the holidays and got the news on Saturday evening about Urban Meyer via text message from my Nole fan sister. She said something like "what happened to Meyer" and I responded "I don't know, I'm driving". She then said "he just resigned".

Even though she's a nole fan, I knew she wasn't joking. My initial thought was that he didn't want to deal with the high expectations of Gator fans and maybe felt like he's accomplished enough during his short tenure. I was shocked, but not surprised. With Notre Dame out of the picture, my first thought was the NFL. I always felt like Meyer wanted to be an NFL coach someday.

Then over the course ofthe next hour or so I got a dozen more texts from friends and family and the details of Meyers health condition became more clear.

As saddened and shocked as I was in Saturday, hearing that Coach had a change of heart on Sunday put my mind at ease. If he were to have left UF entirely instead of opting for a leave of absense as he has done, that decision would have been detrimental instrad of beneficial and eventually caused him more distress than what he's going through right now.

He loves UF and Gator football too much to just abandon ship; after watching his one-on-one with Tom Rinaldi on ESPN Sportcenter last night I was convinced of just that - my admiration and love for Coach Meyer grew even more after hearing what he had said.
