Here comes the first in what is a tough stretch in the SEC for us.
I wish we'd gotten one more shot at the Turf-Biter--we owed him, for one thing, and it sure looked like he'd lost the confidence of his team. Now we gotta face a team that appears to be rallying around Ed O. I'd love to see us bring 'em all back down to earth, but there are a bunch of reasons, both rational and emotional, why I'm not sure that'll happen here.
Y'all are as aware of them as I am, but they all come down to our offense:
Our OC needs to get after them with an aggressive gameplan (and our Head Coach must insist on it), and I'm just not at all sure that happens unless Luke cones back.
Anyone hear whether there's any chance of that happening? I heard Ogeron on the radio talking about the upcoming game, and HE at least assumed it was Appleby ("like our quarteback, a Purdue guy") who they'd be facing. One more reason to "throw em a curve", if we can.
Anyone else, I don't see us getting it done. In fact, if Luke's rcovery and mid-to-long term prognosis is still "week-to-week, we'll have to see...", I believe it's time to begin getting one of our 2 freshman qbs some quality in-game experience.
I'll mention something else that needs to be changed, decisions made: It is PAST time to settle on 2 of our running backs to carry the load...AS it is, NONE of the four ate getting a chance to find their groove, get a rhythm going. Not only is our offense suffering because of this, that lack has meant our defense being on the field far too much, getting worn out while we FAIL to do that to the OTHER team's D.
As it is, "more of the same" means just that: wasting our defense's fine play, and along with everything else, our OC forcing a gameplan that he himself calls "shortening the game". Far as I'm concerned, it's the same as "play not to lose"--and BOTH amount to a return to Muschamp & Chump-of-the-Moment-OC's long slow death march season after season thru the SEC. What worries me most is that Coach Mac isn't as sick of it already as most of US.
"Coach, don't you get it? Not only isn't it working, but YOUR ASS IS ON THE LINE HERE TOO!!!"
