NFL Gator Update

"Former Gators under Urban Meyer have been making a name for themselves in the National Football League, and members of last year's senior class are doing the same. David Nelson, Maurkice Pouncey, and Brandon Spikes are pushing for starting jobs, while Tim Tebow continues to impress."

I like the part about Pouncy being mature beyond his years, and much more mature than other 20-something year olds previously drafted. Which is the opposite of what most people outside of Gator Nation seem to think about our team (due to the arrest record, which if you look at it, most of the arrests are for such minor things, its not even funny, or they were dropped/false arrests).

Good post.

I only hope that Carlos Dunlap will keep his nose clean as a pro and start growing up. I like the fact that Percy Harvin moved beyond his stupidity at the Combine (failing a drug test) and won rookie honors last season; Louis Murphy is showing promise at Oakland and some of our other guys who were UFA's (Kestahn Moore and David Nelson, especially) have a shot at making an NFL roster.

Major Wright has also alluded to the fact that he wants to be a role model for kids while he's with the Bears. Brandon Spikes is also determined to help get his brother out of prison in North Carolina.

I don't worry about Tim Tebow or David Nelson; they both have a strong Christian faith that guides each of them in their daily lives.

I have a feeling that Urban Meyer may also become a "star-maker" in getting guys to the NFL who may enjoy a level of success that former Gators who played for other coaches didn't, or were only moderately successful, in the pros.
