Less than three weeks before the Florida men's basketball regular season kicks off, the Gators can finally include Israeli point guard Nimrod Tishman in their lineup. The Gators staff spent the last couple of months jumping through NCAA Clearinghouse hoops, even translating his transcripts from Hebrew to English.
Tishman can serve as a reserve point guard behind Erving Walker and Kenny Boynton, who can play both guard spots. But after this assessment from Florida Coach Billy Donovan, don't expect the world from the 18-year-old Tishman.
“I don’t have a lot of expectations on him being a high major contributor at all this year,” Donovan said at basketball media day almost two weeks ago. “I do feel like he can be a guy that can come in and fill in for a few minutes and at least provide us some ball handling back there for us.”
Tishman averaged 18.6 points, 4.2 rebounds and 2.8 assists per game during the Under-18 European Championships over the summer.
The Gators open regular season play Nov. 15 against Stetson.
