"Former Gator Chris Leak was on the field working with the quarterbacks during Saturday afternoon's Orange & Blue Debut in The Swamp.
First-year starting quarterback John Brantley said he and Leak have kept in contact ever since the Ocala Trinity Catholic product first stepped on campus. And Brantley said it was his request that brought Leak to Gainesville this week to help.
"He was just giving little pointers to me," said Brantley, who went 15-for-19 for 201 yards and two touchdowns with no interceptions. "(He was telling me) little things you just need to do.
"He's just trying to help me out. He's always been a mentor to me. I've always watched him play, through his college years while I was growing up, and I'm just happy he's helping me out now."
Brantley said the most specific assistance provided by Leak, who led the Gators to the 2006 BCS title, has had to do with handling the pressure that comes with being UF's starting quarterback.
"It was great to have Chris Leak come back ... he was working," Gator coach Urban Meyer said. "He was out there talking (and) was just around giving the insight to the team.
"I just love Chris Leak."
