Over/under on Dan Mullen leaving for the NFL

This is the time of season for rumors, so I will head off the rumor of Dan Mullen leaving for the NFL by setting the over/under on his departure at 12 years. Spurrier coached for 12 years. In 12 years, Dan & Megan Mullen's youngest will turn 18.

I doubt it, the spread offense is not really used in the NFL at least not that much though Lincoln Riley is being considered for NFL jobs and they run the spread in Oklahoma. I just don't see it.

...AND: Not that "honor", "one's word" OR "DREAMS" (as in "Dream Job") means a whole lot anymore, but Dan Mullen wanted and GOT his "dream job", Head Coach of the Florida Gators, "ahead of schedule" according to everything he has said privately and publicly ever since being offered it...and I choose to believe him.
The rest above just reinforces that with logic and reason. I suppose it was inevitable that such rumors would surface and spread with the unexpectedly swift and thorough turnaround in Gainesville...BUT: Our response now must be to IGNORE IT. DO NOT participate in its spread, in giving it any further form or credence.
Yes, there IS the slight chance that its very suddenness, the kind of bolt-from-the-blue "Big Money" that might shake loose from some desperate quarter, some sinking GM or freaked out owner looking for a lifeline, some big public splash to get the fans and media off their collective backs--and THEN maybe an advisor (friend, lawyer, accountant, WHATEVER) whispering in Coach Dan's ear, "You might never be offered this kind of CRAZY MONEY again...Gotta consider your family!" In which case, at which point we just gotta hope that realistic questions of "How much more money do I NEED?" and/or "How much is happiness, honor, trust and personal longterm satisfaction worth?" will measure up against the cynical thought that "the Florida FANS could be howling for my head a year from now with just a run of injuries and general bad luck..!--it's happened before, face it!")...
Anyway, all WE can do, as I say, is to NOT PARTICIPATE!
Just let it go. Do NOT pass it on. Do NOT lend ANY of it ANY credence. Lets take the man at his word. Least for now. He has never given us any reason NOT to. So far he has made good, and MORE, on everything he has said or promised. I say, lets let him run his race.
This one's a keeper. He has looked in a lot of pairs of eyes and promised the young players, their parents, his staff, the UF administrators and boosters and on and on that they could trust him, hitch themselves to his engine and RIDE THE RIDE!
Lets do the same. We climbed aboard: Lets ride it through.

The Philadelphia Eagles offense run a variant of the spread offense when Nick Foles is at QB, and multiple teams use multiple variations of spread offense plays:
  • Pittsburgh Steelers
    • "Gun trey open" (That is the name used in Madden 19, but it may go under a different name in Randy Fichtner's playbook.) <media removed due to forum restrictions>
  • Kansas City Chiefs
    • "Thunder shovel option right F back"
. This play was used by Dan Mullen at Utah and Florida!
  • Carolina Panthers
    • "Thunder shovel option right F back" <media removed due to forum restrictions>. Of course Cam Newton can run this play--Dan Mullen taught it to him before Cam left Florida!
    • "Trips right wheel 22 (brown Indian)"
. This is Cam Newton running a play right out of Gus Malzahn's playbook. Dabo Swinney uses this play today with Clemson. Dan Mullen used a similar play with Utah, Florida, and Mississippi State as "14/15 triple".
  • Dallas Cowboys
    • "525 F Post Swing" (This play is actually Air Coryell and predates the spread offense, but is now considered a spread concept when the offensive line is spread wider.) <media removed due to forum restrictions>
  • Seattle Seahawks
    • "Fox 2 X/Y Hook" or "Gator" or "Mills" is an old play that Spurrier popularized with the Fun N' Gun as wellas Don Coryell, and is now a staple of the spread offense. Here is Will Grier running that play at WVU:
. Here is a look at Seattle's spread-to-run rushing attack that comes out of his spread passing plays:
      .
The spread is alive in the NFL today with modifications to Don Coryell's Air Coryell to make it a spread, cherry-picking Steve Spurrier's pre-spread spread offense, or mixing in Rich Rodriguez, Guz Malzahn, Urban Meyer, and Chip Kelly's spread concepts. Dan Mullen learned the spread from the same people as all of the folks listed above except Don Coryell, and he would do well in the NFL, because Mullen further adapted his spread to use different inside zone and RPOs that are commonplace, as well as outside zone and pro-set offense plays that he had to use with his pocket passers (Chris Leak, Tyson Lee, Feleipe Franks).

"TYPE of Coach", "college" vs "pro", is a very real distinction too. Saban was and IS a "college-type Coach"...Proven both ways--but then again, not only does he AND we have the evidence by experience, but he got the money (well, some of it) too--so he doesn't HAVE to "second guess" himself now.
Pretty sure Coach DAN's a "college-type" TOO--but it is still mostly theoretical at this point. That makes this a dangerous time--for him AND us.
Back to my point above.

I remember I think I said this earlier when Urban Liar was coaching that I thought he might leave when his second daughter was off to college (and sadly I was right). Also, I know Cleveland Browns is considering Lincoln Riley mostly because of Baker Mayfield. I think all the teams who listed @Escambia94 maybe one or two might consider getting new coaches (though the Panthers did say that Rivera was safe). Steelers I'm not sure though maybe they would give Tomlin another year to steer the ship in the right direction.
