Pete Carroll: NCAA off base with sanctions

RENTON, Wash. -- "Days after the NCAA trampled his former Southern California Trojans, coach Pete Carroll's mindset remains the same from afar.

Fight on!

Carroll says the NCAA had no basis for unfair and "really, really harsh" sanctions on USC.

"There's nothing there," he said Tuesday of the investigation into his program's knowledge of former Trojans running back Reggie Bush's improper benefits and relationship with an agent."

I view this as 1 part trying to support USC and 3 parts not wanting to look bad. He wants his accolades, he wants his records, and he certainly didn't care how he got them. Despite what he says his move to the NFL was very intentionally timed. The only people I feel any pity for are the players who just joined the team, but even they had to have known in the back of their heads that signing on with a Lane Kiffen team - especially one under such extreme scrutiny - was a poor choice at best.

I hope more players transfer out if they get to avoid sitting a year or not (so long as they retain eligibility). Let USC really pay for what it did by having to start from as close to scratch as possible.
