"As a football team, I want to be known as a blue-collar, overachieving unit," Will Muschamp said as he was announced as the new head coach of the Florida Gators last December.

After a 41-11 loss to the LSU Tigers in Death Valley Saturday afternoon, the Gators perhaps could be described as a team that is under-achieving, beatup, tired and distracted.

LSU totaled 453 yards of total offense, 238 of which were on the ground, on a Florida defense which was ranked No. 7 in the nation going into the contest.

Despite the high ranking, it is a Florida defense which gave up too much on the ground last week against Alabama, 226 to be exact.

Freshman quarterback Jacoby Brissett's college football debut was OK according to many commentators and his head coach. He completed 8-of-14 passing attempts, for 94 yards, including a 65-yard touchdown to Andre Debose but two interceptions.

“I have to give him props," Trey Burton said of his teammate's first collegiate start as a QB. "He played really really well. He’s a really good runner and a really good athlete. He did really well. I’m really proud of him. The team has his back and he’s just going to get better every week."

The Gator offense was 2-for-11 on third down and gained 213 total yards (100 passing/113 rushing on 32 attempts).

Chris Rainey had a team-high 13 carries and had 52 yards rushing.

"We wore out as the game wore on, but we didn’t force turnovers," Muschamp said after the game. "We committed two, and we’ve just got to play better on the line of scrimmage. I’m disappointed in the game. "

Regarding the defensive line Muschamp says that he thought they unit would player better than they have the last two weeks.against two of the best offensive lines the nation

"The East is totally in our grasp," defensive tackle Jaye Howard said in the locker room after the game." "We’re worried about different games, and right now we need to just focus on one game at a time."

Defensive tackle Sharrif Floyd concluded "At the end of the day, we still control our own destiny."

Up next the Gators travel to Auburn for a 7 p.m. ET kickoff next Saturday night on ESPN.
